Between the mountains and the shoreline is the Alghero borough, kept like an immaculate garden, full of exuberant vegetation where the darkness of the olive groves mixes with bright orchards and the leafy vineyards. White farm-workers homes mingle with the local summer homes, filling the countryside as if it were a large town. Treacherous back roads, and in the summer dried out riverbeds, twist, across the land in all directions. The hilly plains slope down gently to bathe in the sea's blue waves...
